YOGA JOURNEYS

We begin again with a series of monthly workshops to deepen your understanding of yoga practise, context, history and technique.

LEARN   STUDY   QUESTION    PLAY   DEVELOP

Let’s get together and share practise, learning and playful exploration of yoga!

These workshops will be much more than a yoga class! Expect more conversation and play, time and space, questioning and observation.  As well as listening to me, we will also watch and learn from each other, with each other, and make use of images, books, scripture, videos etc. to see and understand the practise better.

I can’t wait to workshop with you!

FULL PRIMARY SERIES EXPLORATION

(practise and play)

tbc

Come and experience this deep sequential practsie for yourselves.  This Ashtanga Vinyasa practise flows with a very strong and and precise alignment on the breath, to a set sequence and works the inner techniques of bandha, drishti, ujjayi and vinyasa otherwise known as Tristhana. The sequence is logical and layers technique, so even if we adapt postures or practise with less intensity that someone who does this 6 days a week there is still a lot of energetic and psychological yoga work within this practise. Also learn how the sequence works eneregtically to awaken , enagage and control the body from toes to head, this particular Series mostly focuses on charging the base energy known as Muladhara with focus on standing postures and hip openers and forward bends and focus on bandhas and exhale patterns.

DYNAMISM, POWER AND GRACE

The inner tools of breath and bandha

tbc

The mighty work of hatha yoga! Originally the practise of using the body to acheive yoga was intended to purify the body, awaken and unblock the energy within and attain enlightenment. Bandhas/ internal locks are still present in our modern day practise. Learn to use your yogic core to it's full potential with practises of pranayama/ breath work and bandha awareness so that you may bring power, grace, structure and safety to your yoga practise.  When these skills are developed the body is light and strong and the mind hyper aware of the placement of the body meaning you may just surprise yourself!

POSTURES OF THE HATHABHYASAPADDHATI

tbc

Have a go at practising some of the older relatives of our modern day yoga practise! This text is important and exciting as it was the first to ever 'practise manual'  to set out a practise that worked with sequences! These postures moved and worked with reps, different planes of movements and had rhythm and energy, much of our modern style of moving Vinyasa practise has evolved from this text.  Scholars recently rediscovered this text nestled within a larger text the Sritattvanidhi where the all important order of postures had been scrambled.
