fresh new classes for A MODERN WOrLd

Authentic teachings made relevant for YOU the modern student

A fresh approach...

Leanne is proud to present her teaching of an authentic yoga practise in fresh new class styles! This she hopes will not only make the practise more accessible and useful to all types of students, but more appropriate for challenging times where many of us feel we have lost heart, freedom and connection to each other and the world we live in.

Leanne's usual Led Ashtanga classes have diversified to include slow flow and vinyasa classes as she feels that during this time variation is good to keep us inspired to practise and the looser approach can lift our mood when we live among restrictions.  Deliberately following a set sequence or simply enjoying freer movement on the mat serve in different ways to release us from our minds and lead us to the openness and freedom of the heart beyond.  Sometimes we crave the familiar pattern to make us feel safe and sometimes we simply want to feel free and have fun! All classes will incorporate classic and modern hatha yoga techniques and postures, breathing instructions and guidance towards the inner spiritual journey through references to yogic philosophy and space to observe and feel the unique experience personal to you.  Leanne wants you to practise wisely, breath steadily and enjoy the process of gradually working with the body and breath to lighten the mind and lift the heart.

‘AWAKEN’

Lift the spirit, open the heart and invigorate the spine.  Incorporating the energy and postures of some of the Ashtanga Vinyasa Secondary Series ‘Nadi Shodana’

This is a perfect class to awaken and lift the mood as well as the physical body.  Designed to work the body on an energetic level these postures work by moving the spine into deeper flexion and extension (rounding and arching) and through deep twists.  The legs and back will gain strength and the spine itself will become more stable and supple through this practise (meaning less back pain! ) Opening space through the shoulders and heart gives a sense of lightness and joy and can eradicate bad posture, lethargy, dullness, low self- esteem and depression.  A perfect counter practise to the Ground and Open Class.

‘GROUND AND OPEN’

Steadily strengthen and open the body as you calm the mind. Working with the energy and postures from the Ashtanga Vinyasa Primary Series ‘Yoga Chikitsa'

This class works systematically with the fundamental yoga standing poses and seats with focus on grounding and calming forward folding and hip opening with essential core work built into transitions!  Gain confidence as you learn body control, lightness and equilibrium on the mat as well as a vital good steady breathing pattern.   This sequence is designed to wake up and optimise the functions of the physical body front the ground up, gradually improving flexibility, strength and circulation as well as removing excess fat and cleaning the internal organs.  As the body and breath ground through this mostly stabilising and apanic practise the mind becomes less agitated and more steady and focussed.  A perfect counter practise to the ‘Awaken’ class.

‘LET GO’

Experience freedom by surrendering to a simple, no fuss, inhale exhale counted class.

A Led 1/4 or 1/2 Primary Series Class.

This is designed to let you forget about it all and transcend to liberation.  A sure steady vinyasa count will allow you to keep the mind and sense focussed inwardly on the beautiful and precise partnership of breath and movement to keep you from over thinking, controlling, predicting or worrying about your practise or your life beyond that!   Trust a steady inhale exhale journey  to declutter the mind and give you a glimpse of the quiet beyond, a perfect practise of non- attachment to attain peace!

'PRACTISE SHARE'

Need company or moral support but don't feel like being led?

Then jump on your mat and do your practise along with Leanne as she broadcasts her practise Live through Instagram.  Perfect for those  with a Mysore practise or interested in starting one or those who are familiar with Leanne's classes but might not remember the sequence yet!

‘FREEDOM’

A soft and light flowingVinyasa class with many of the Ashtanga fundamental poses for a well rounded sequence with more expression, creativity and a looser mental approach.

Set to an uplifting soundtrack this class will aim to keep you on your toes, get you out of your head and into the present moment and your inner child with interesting and new pose variations, challenges and transitions.  This practise will encourage you to greet the unknown (sequence variables) with a light- heart and open mind which is not easy in a society founded on achieving, perfecting, expecting and controlling!  Let’s unlearn the serious attitude and have fun!

‘RELEASE’

Deep rest, faith and inner peace with yin, meditation, scripture & stillness

This class is designed to release not only tightness in the body but also the activity of the mind.  Class will consist of postures held for 4min that are sequenced together seamlessly to create minimal disturbance as you sink deeper and deeper into the stillness.  Classes are interspersed with quotes or readings from the scriptures of yoga philosophy and hatha yoga texts and finish with a short meditation and relaxation.  The process of meditation occurs through the class as you slow down and sink deeper away from the external and physical world and further into the stillness and quiet within.  Learn to watch and observe the experiences and sensations from the viewpoint of the Self, that is a place behind the emotions, thoughts, reactions and actions.  In this way you come to see that everything is subject to change and that you are within unchanged and ever at peace.

leanne as your teacher

Her mission as a teacher has been to find the way to teach yoga that remains traditional, but is useful and adaptable to the student, and so this has had much to do with how she has evolved her teaching style, and a constant Catch 22 for Leanne.  She has often come to question her faith in how yoga is now taught, her purpose as a teacher and her beliefs and understandings of the practise after studying scriptures and at the same time living in a very different world to the era that produced them.  Especially living in a non Hindu society where worship and devotion to God is not as common as in other societies.   She has often felt torn and confused at how  the word ‘tradition’ seems to suggest obedience, rigidity, blind faith and something set in stone; whereas the natural world we live in and it’s societies are constantly evolving and changing.  Not wanting to be too generic or wishy- washy, yet not strict and rigid in her teaching, she has developed a style that focusses on the core hatha yoga techniques and the 'Ashtanga Yoga' Philosophy ( a methodical approach to the yoga techniques prsesnted by the Sage Patanjali) which she transmits in a caring, encouraging and approachable way.  She says that the modern yoga scene and it’s teachers aka representatives and guides must remain true to the yoga philosophy and welcome all without prejudice, and offering a safe learning environment where students may learn about themselves through their bodies and hopefully learn the fundamental techniques and tools which will  guide them ever onwards, or  ‘upwards’ along the yoga path if they wish to take it.
